How a Traditional PIN Code Works?

The standard Postal Index Number (PIN) is a 6-digit numeric code used by India Post. Each digit identifies a specific geographic or administrative level:

Digits 1-2: The Postal Circle or sub-region.

Digit 3: The sorting or revenue district.

Digits 4-6: The specific delivery Post Office.

How a DIGIPIN Works?

Unlike a traditional PIN code that represents a broad delivery area, a DIGIPIN is a highly precise 10-character alphanumeric digital address (e.g., 8G9-3WF-45J9). It divides the country into a uniform grid system:
